Massive Movement Project - Eclipses

Summary

As we all know, that is was common sense that the Earth revolves around the Sun. This is called the Earth Revolution. To revolves means to move around another object. Alike Earth, Moon also revolves around a planet, which is the Earth and this is called the Lunar Revolution. It takes 365.5 days for the Earth to orbit around the Sun one time. For the Moon, it takes 29.5 days to orbit around the Earth one time. Because of the movement that the planets has, many surprising things can occur and the one beautiful thing is the eclipses. There are two types of eclipses which are the Solar eclipse and the Lunar eclipse. A Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the shadow of the Earth. The Lunar Eclipse only occurs when there is a Full Moon. A Full Moon is when the Moon is fully illustrated, 100% illuminated by the Sun. There are two parts of the shadow and they are the umbra and the penumbra. The umbra is the darkest part of the shadow and the penumbra is the lighter part of the shadow. There were two forms of eclipses, they are total eclipse and partial eclipse. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon is fully in the umbra of the Earth and partial lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon is in the penumbra of the Earth. Only part of the Moon will be covered by the shadow. A Solar Eclipse is when the Moon passes through between the Sun and the Earth. A solar eclipse only occurs when there is a New Moon. A New Moon is when the Moon is fully covered, that is 100% invisible. A total solar eclipse only occurs when the Moon is fully in the umbra part of the Earth. A partial solar eclipse only occurs when the Moon is in the penumbra of the Earth. Only part of the Sun will be covered by the Moon.

Critical Thinking Questions

How do the Earth's motions affect us each day?

The rotation of the Earth causes day and night, which allow organism to adjust their body's function. The side of the earth that are facing to Sun will be day time and the other side would be night time. Also the tilts of the Earth allows the Earth to change its temperature. The side tilting to the Sun which is Northern Hemisphere will receive more radiation/heat than the Southern Hemisphere. The revolution of the Earth causes seasons. There are four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

How do the Sun, Moon and Earth interact?

One way that the Sun, Moon and Earth interact with each other was the tides. The tides are the rising and falling of the oceans on the Earth every day. This movement happen because of the gravitational attraction caused by the Moon and the Sun on the ocean of the Earth.

Reflection

What did you enjoy most about this project and why?

I enjoy all the parts in this project because in this project, me and my group members had work together all the time and have learned so much in this project. I won't create this video without the help of my group member. While creating the video, everyone was having fun enjoying it. Also, this project had expressed out our creativity and corporation with each other.

What was most challenging for you during this project and why?

The most challenging part for me was that there were only two of us working as a partner in this project. The minimum number of people in a group was three and we only have two. While we are recording, we need someone to talk, someone to record using cell phone and the other one to move the props. Because there were only two of us, so I have to be the one who talks and hold the camera at the same time while we were recording our video. Especially there would be a chance where the other group member would be absent, that makes the case worse.

What new skills did you learn from doing this project?

By doing this project, I've learned how to make videos by using an app called iMovie in a Macbook. This project was different from any video project that I've done before. Before I was using an app called FinalCut Pro to edit and produce video but now I've learned how to use iMovie and this app is much easier and convenient to use.
